Exploring figure ground relationships with compressed charcoal and masking areas to create clean line. Every stroke, every bit of black, is part of a square layered over a square over a square. These layers of perspective offer interpretive possibilities for the viewer to engage the mirrored, subtle, and playful duplicity.

The narrative-- rather than relying on sign-- has been pared down to symbol.


These pieces are 18 in. x 24 in., composed of compressed charcoal on heavy

watercolor paper.  Completed during the early months of 2007.
